As a Directorate in 1962, the activities of the Department of Immigration and Passport of the Department of Zonal offices, Dhaka and Regional Passport Offices, Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Khulna were started in 1962 to provide assistance to the citizens of Bangladesh. In 1973, the Department of Immigration and Passport was established in full swing in the Independent State of Bangladesh. There are six (six) offices in Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Khulna offices, including the headquarters of the presiding offices of Dhaka. In 2010 there was a revolutionary change in the Department of Immigration and Passport. In line with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO), machine-readable passports (MRPs) and machine-readable visas (MRVs) are being started. As well as having 19 regional passport offices, the number of offices is 34 (thirty-four). In addition, 6 visa sales and 9 immigration check posts were created. In 2011 more 33 (thirty-three) regional passport offices were created. Currently, the passport office maintenance work is completed in every district of the country. Besides, MRP and MRV projects have been implemented in 65 Bangladeshi missions around the world. Currently, 1184 people are registered with the Department of Immigration and Passport. Until September 2, 2014, 2,16,02,589 machine-readable passports (MRPs) and 10,81,383 machine-readable visas (MRVs) have been successfully printed.
From the date of 13/03/2013, the activities of the Regional Passport Office were started in Bandarban Hill District and the MRP passport program was introduced from the date 14/12/2014. A large number of people in this district hoping to get employment abroad. So the staff is working to provide their passport without any hassles. Passport fees are being deposited through online banking. Passport is being given within a period of time as the police verification report is very fast.
